Land tax is payable on taxable value of land owned, assessed each year on 31 December. Some land is exempted from tax. Generally, the exemption apply to land and strata lots used as the owner's principal place of residence, land used by the owner for carrying on of primary production or land owned by charitable, educational and religious societies. Stamp duty Stamp duty is a state tax imposed either at a fixed rate or at an ad valorem rate on the value of the transaction. Duty is imposed on dutiable transactions (sale, transfer, surrender, vesting), including land, certain floor space, and shares in private company. |
